AB ACUPUNCTURE

Before pursuing my passion for Chinese medicine, I worked in the financial industry and in nonprofit arts management. After being a patient of acupuncture for over 20 years, I had a transformative moment while lying on the treatment table—I realized I wanted to share this incredible gift with others. Acupuncture helped me understand my body in a whole new way, inspiring me to study at the Pacific College of Health & Science, the largest institution for Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine in the country.

Recognizing that there’s always more to learn, I pursued advanced studies in orthopedic acupuncture techniques for chronic and acute pain with some of the field's leading practitioners. I also focused on stroke rehabilitation techniques and became certified in Oncology Acupuncture by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My studies even took me to Kyoto, Japan, where I advanced my practice of Japanese acupuncture for a short seminar at Meiji University of Integrative Medicine.

I’ve been fortunate to volunteer my time with various organizations, including the Bumi Sehat Foundation International in Bali, a village-based birthing and community health clinic. I've also worked with the staff at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and provided care for runners in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers event.

For those curious about my education, I hold a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health & Science, where I completed an intensive four-year program combining Eastern and Western medical coursework, including over 3,000 hours of clinical experience. I am board-certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and licensed in New York.

Now, I am thrilled to have opened a multidisciplinary health and wellness space on the Upper West Side, specializing in acute and chronic pain conditions with a focus on immune health, anxiety, neurological conditions, and related conditions.

A Respite in Your Busy Life

I understand how hectic life can be in New York. We often operate on autopilot, juggling groceries, dry cleaning, workouts, and navigating the city’s busy streets. I’m excited to offer you a brief respite—a chance to recharge and melt away pain. Acupuncture changed my life, and I believe it can change yours too.

Carly is passionate about helping people inhabit their bodies in a comfortable and meaningful way. She moved to New York to obtain a BFA in dance from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts and has performed with dance companies at City Center, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space among others. With a deep interest in the body and energy, she pursued a 200-hour RYT vinyasa yoga training and continues to teach at Kala Yoga in Brooklyn. She also taught HIIT classes around Manhattan for five years. 

Acupuncture kept her body going for years and a new passion was ignited.  Carly wanted to offer this same relief to others and attended the Pacific College of Health & Science and was hooked.  She discovered how comprehensive this medicine is, it offered her the clarity to better understand who she is and who she can be, both professionally and personally. Carly was able to see this transformation occur not only within herself but in her patients and through her volunteer work at a harm reduction center in Harlem working with trauma and addiction patients. 

Carly is continually inspired by the effectiveness of acupuncture and East Asian herbal medicine, and she loves sharing this medicine with others. Whether you’re looking for pain relief, digestive help, women’s health support, or simply some time to quiet down and relax, Carly is here to help! 

Shaneka is the first person you meet when you contact AB Acupuncture and the first face you see when you walk through the door. We are grateful for that! She brings not only warmth, a smile and a cup of tea when needed to all our patients, she keeps us in line and the office running like clockwork.  Prior to running our office, she ran the student clinic at Pacific College of Health & Science and worked for the Visiting Nurse Service of NY.  She spends her off hours with her beautiful daughter Aspen and exploring the city with her. She also makes balloon arches and decor for parties. Fun fact, if you tell her your birthday, she'll tell you all about your astrological sign!
